West Branch, Iowa
West Branch Iowa is located 1/4 mile north of Interstate-80 at Exit 254 and 15 minutes from Interstate-380. The downtown area includes a 16-building historic district. West Branch is the birthplace of Herbert Hoover, the 31st president of the United States. The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library, the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site (National Park Service) and the Hoover Presidential Foundation are all located in the historic area of the city. The Hoover complex offers many educational and cultural events and exhibits and comprises one of Iowa's most popular tourist attractions.
Every August, the Hoover Library-Museum, Hoover National Park, Hoover Foundation and the town of West Branch hold Hoover's Hometown Days, a celebration that includes a spectacular fireworks extravaganza, Hooverball tournaments, entertainment, children's activities and food.The first weekend in December the Hoover Library-Museum, Hoover National Park and the town of West Branch host A Christmas Past Celebration featuring horse-drawn rides, entertainment and food.
Also within the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site are a working replica of Herbert Hoover's father's blacksmith shop, a one-room schoolhouse and a restored Quaker Meeting house.
Hours for the Presidential Museum and the National Park are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's Day, Admission fees are: Adults (ages 16 to 61) are $10.00, Seniors, Active and Retired Military with ID and College Students with ID are $5.00, ages 6-15 are $3.00, ages 5 and under are free.
